Smoky River Water Commission Falher Transfer Station Raw Water Reservoir, Alberta

Waterbody Type: Raw Water Reservoir serving the regional population of less than 10,000 with no pre-existing aeration.

Water Quality Problem: Operator wanted general improvements in water quality for the water body. There was no pre-existing sensor monitoring. The primary goal was preventative maintenance with ongoing monitoring as a risk reduction strategy.

Aeration Solution: Bottom diffused aeration with unique operation features to meet site-specific needs combined with ongoing monitoring.

Sensor monitoring shows that oxygen over the sediments was at expected level following installation. The system is powered with a high-efficiency air bearing turbo blower instead of a compressor. This design choice iis more energy efficient than a regular compressor, has fewer maintenance requirements, and operates well in shallower water like the transfer station reservoir.
